In this talk, Jessie will discuss her most recent body of work Out of Sight & Out of Mind, reflecting not only on the systemic issues of motherhood and visibility, but her own personal experiences of becoming a mother in recent years.
In response to Linder’s use of the collage, the scalpel and the fragmented, Jessie will explore the mother-bricoleur position. Both artists and mothers draw from the bits and pieces that inhabit our world to make sense of our world, to speak of our world.
Out of Sight & Out of Mind, layers and dissects the archives, the forgotten stories of mothers gone by and takes a scalpel to our comforting lullabies; to take note of where our sense of care and love may take us tomorrow.
